Abstract Esther Miriam Andreen was born on September 4, 1896 in New Haven, Connecticut to parents Gustav and Marie Andreen. Her father became the fourth president of Augustana College in 1901. Albrecht had two older brothers, Paul and Marion, and two younger, Gustav and Carl. Conrad Bergendoff papers

Abstract Conrad Bergendoff was the fifth president of Augustana College. Bergendoff was born in rural Nebraska in 1895. He attended Augustana College, and was a member of the class of 1915. He also earned a divinity degree from Augustana Seminary. After several years Bergendoff returned to the seminary as the dean, then as the president of the seminary and the college in 1935. Erland Levi Borg was an Augustana alumnus and Lutheran minister. The Erland Levi Borg papers, 1926-1993 and undated, contains articles, pamphlets, receipts, music uniforms, and paraphernalia regarding the Augustana Concert Band European Tour of 1928 and other campus organizations. There is also biographical information regarding Borg's life after Augustana and photographs of Band Tour Reunions. Materials have been arranged into series according to accession date.

Abstract The Tufve Nilsson Hasselquist papers, 1840-1988 and undated, primarily documents the personal and professional life of the second president of Augustana College, Tufve Nilsson Hasselquist. Hasselquist was born in Sweden in 1816 and traveled to America in 1852. Before assuming the presidency of the college in 1863, Hasselquist was the president of the Augustana Synod, the editor of a Swedish-language newspaper, and a pastor. Augustana College Office of Development collection on Arthur Larson

Abstract

Arthur “Brownie” Larson was born in Rockford, Illinois. He enrolled in the Augustana Academy in 1914 and took a brief break to serve in the Navy during World War I. He returned to Rock Island and attended Augustana College from 1918 to 1922. The Augustana College Office of Development collection on Arthur Larson contains papers about Larson's life collected by the Development Office, including photographs, programs, correspondence, newspaper clippings, and a plaque.

Carol Noren papers

Abstract Carol Noren was the first woman graduate of Augustana Theological Seminary to enter the ministry. She served as pastor and hospital chaplain in Manchester, England (1975-1976) and associate pastor of Salem United Methodist Church in Barrington, Ill., from 1977 to 1981. Between 1986 and 1993, she served on faculty at Duke Divinity School and currently is the Wesley W. Nelson Professor of Homiletics at North Park Theological Seminary in Chicago.
